GLASGOW TOUCH ANNOUNCES NEW LEAGUE

We are excited to announce the launch of the new Glasgow Touch league! Hopes are high that this will be the most successful touch season in Glasgow to date, so we thought we would start to spread the word.

Facilities

The pitches are situated at Allan Glen Rugby Club, Bishopbriggs. These facilities are ideal as it is easy to get to by car with plenty of parking and excellent public transport connections. The club boasts great playing pitches and onsite bar facilties which we will be encouraging teams to use after the games.

Structure

The league will run on a Thursday night for 8 weeks in total starting on the 29th May and concluding on 24th July 2008. There will be no games week of 7th July. The structure being 6 weeks of round robin matches and then a semi final and grand final week in which ALL teams will play both weeks. FREE coaching sessions and games will continue at Glasgow Green on a Wednesday night. These are especially great for those who are not able to commit to a team. To ensure teams get value for money, games will last for 40 mins (approx 2 x 18 min halves). Depending on the number of teams registering there will be 2 to 3 time slots (6.40pm, 7.20pm and if need be 8.00pm) Time slots will be rotated.

Cost

Team registration is £250 for the season (plus a £30 deposit which is fully refundable at the end of the season if your team does not forfeit any matches).

Prizes

There will be great prizes to be won including league winners, best and fairest male and female player, team spirit award and referee of the season. A presentation will take place after the grand final matches.

Grading/Teams

Where possible teams will be graded depending on experience. If you are an individual looking for a team or a group of friends wanting to play together we can also assist you in finding a team. Use our forum or contact us directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . To avoid teams turning up short of players due to injury/work committments etc. we will not be accpeting registration from teams which have any less than 10 players. If your team does suffer from a decrease in numbers during the season for whatever reason, the team captain must contact us in writing.

Refereeing

The Glasgow Touch league will have qualified touch referees, so there will be no need for teams to supply referees. However we do encourage people to get in touch with us if they are interested in learning more about the rules. There is a Level 1 Referee Course due to take place in coming weeks and anyone is welcome to attend.

Attire

All teams will be required to wear numbered shirts. Please avoid yellow shirts as this is the referee colours. No metal studs are allowed under any circumstances and it is highly recommended that grass boots or moulded soles are worn.

Rules

Federation of International Touch Rules apply (inlcuding 6-a-side with a maximum of 3 males on the pitch at any time for mixed). For the purposes of educating new teams and the enjoyment of the game, it is at the referees discretion how they apply these rules.

Insurance

Glasgow Touch does not provide personal accident or injury insurance. Participants of Glasgow Touch events agree they have read and understood the Guidelines and Code of Conduct. They will abide by this and understand that they are participating at their own risk. The owner, organisers and volunteers of Glasgow Touch bear no liability for loss, damage or liability to any competitor, volunteers, spectator or individual connected with the programme of events.
